Stay Motivated While Working Out
74
Have you ever thought it would be this hard to stay motivated to stay in the gym and lose the extra pounds before the year ends? As the holidays and wintery days near, it’s easy to pass up on the trip to gym and take an extra piece of pie at the kitchen table. You’ve lost everything except your waistline, and you have no workout motivation. Read below to see what you can do to put down the fork and pick up the weights.
Stay Motivated by Setting Goals
One of the best ways to stay motivated at the gym is by setting goals. Now there’s no need to have these weight loss goals to be like losing 100 pounds as soon as possible; make them more realistic, like lose five pounds a week for four months. Goals are great motivators because they help set something that you can reach and be excited about. They are something that you can keep looking at to see if you need to spend a few minutes in the gym (without overdoing it).
Try setting performance goals, too. Think about going to the gym to run a mile or two at the gym. Sounds easy enough. Go into the gym with only that in mind and then when you’re finished and feeling good, do another mile. If not, just stop and don’t overdo it. There’s no need to pull a muscle or something worse at the gym because you worked too hard. Setting and achieving goals are good ways to stay motivated in the gym and make you feel great when you complete them.
Create a Diet to Stay Motivated
Easy diet plans could be a good motivator for working out. After a nice workout, it’s a great idea to eat a salad or a small meal. Whatever you eat, make sure it’s not high in fat- and remember whatever it is, it will always beat sitting on a coach, eating a burger for dinner. Make sure it’s a healthy weight loss diet for you and not something that you’re doing because everyone else is doing it. What makes this a good motivator is that you can maintain a journal of the food you do eat and keep track of the calories you have eaten, and while you’re at the gym, you can have a goal of losing a fraction of that. Go to the gym each day and lose that specific number you came into the gym with and feel great leaving.
You can also check out weight loss or fat loss books like ‘Weight Loss for Dummies’. I say ‘check out’, because a lot of the stuff you read there you probably already know or could find out with some online weight loss help.
When used correctly, diets for men and women can be a great way to keep you motivated while working out.
Stay Motivated by Bringing a Friend
Working out with a friend is a great way to stay motivated. They always pick you up for some needed motivational weight loss support. You and your friend could sign up for an aerobic exercise weight loss class. These classes are a fun way to meet new and interesting people that you might not meet outside of the gym. In order to get the best results and stay motivated, you need to go to every one of your classes with your friend.
Visualize Your Goal Weight to Stay Motivated
Always remember the weight that you want to achieve and go for it! Whenever you start to feel like not going to the gym and you’ve missed a few days, stay motivated by picturing yourself in the new swimsuit for the summer or having the fitness of a runner that you use to be back in your high school days. In order to visualize weight, you should not take it too seriously, but instead think about how you would want to look in the future, wearing a particular style of clothes or being able to walk up steps without collapsing. Do NOT look at magazines when you want to visualize weight. In my opinion, they only give false impressions of how you should look. Don’t pay attention to these and only visualize weight that you feel comfortable in.
Stay Motivated by Hiring a Trainer
Trainers give great professional help while you’re on your quest to stay motivated while working out. They are people at your local gym that will be willing to give you pointers on how to use the machines, and even help you out with them.
Stay Motivated with Consistency
If you’re staying consistent when going to the gym, it will show that you can stay motivated. Go every other day, two days and take a day off, or work out for five days a week and do a small walk or jog on the weekends. The possibilities are endless!
Also, working out at the same time every day will keep you to stay motivated. Most gyms are open twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week, so you’ll be able to pick a time each day and stick with it. You could go first thing in the morning, when you first wake up and before you stroll into work, during your lunch break, after your work, or even during the middle of the night.
One thing to remember when you are trying to stay motivated, and you do miss two or three days in a row, just go to the gym and start over again.
Stay Motivated by Rewarding Yourself
Once you’ve hit a small goal in your journey to stay motivated in the gym and lose weight, feel free to reward yourself with a small candy or sweet treat of your choosing. This will boost your motivation to lose more weight and earn another candy luxury. Now, don’t overdo it. One treat should be enough. After all, if you spent all that time working out, eating all that candy as a reward will only take away everything that you worked so hard on.

A realistic goal like 5lb a week???Please, hardly sustainable nor realistic. Try 2lb a week, after all you cant lose more fat than that in a 1 week period anyway. The rest is just muscle.

These are great tips for staying motivated, which is especially hard for me this time of year. I am so busy, exercise sometimes takes a back seat. Thanks for the ideas.
Namaste.
